A SOLDIER'S DIARY

I stood on the front lines with a passion in my heart
I stood to safeguard my motherland
I stood to safeguard my people
I stood so that the nation shall stand

We moved in huge numbers to places unknown
We moved into hostile regions
We moved until we completed our objectives
We moved sometimes for bigger reasons

I haven't seen my family for months
I haven't seen my fields and lands
I haven't see the place I call home
It is here that I shall stand

We climb mountains that are tall
We cross the raging cold rivers
We eat what we get sometimes
Surviving on the tiniest of slivers

We walk all day sometimes
We walk sometimes all night
We walk despite our legs giving away
But we never stopped in our fight

I shall fight till I'm alive
I shall fight for my nation's pride
I shall give it all I have in me
I shall take all victories and defeats in my stride

I may die one day fighting on the front lines,
My family might cry at the news
But my motherland shall be proud
Tell her I'm one of those lucky ones who made the sacrifice.

Though the nation may not worry about my demise
They sleep soundly, safe and secure
A soldier who died fighting for his nation,
It was my destiny perhaps!

My cousin Sakshi(right) and I This is a true incident. Long ago, when I was a kid. I particularly can't recall my childhood as such but this incident runs fresh in my memory! DAYS SINCE MIGRATION

MY SIDE OF THE STORY!! Sitiing in my room, one day I was wondering what it was like living in Kashmir, what was the lifestyle of people there, how they lived in the cold valleys, what they ate, how they celebrated, how they socialised? This was when I was very small, so I asked my mother about it, she gave me detailed stories of their illustrative and glorious past. The way they enjoyed the lush green valleys, the wide playgrounds, the snow clad mountains was mesmerising. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories.I longed for living in such a place, away from the hustle of the city life. Life was peaceful there, everyone looked out for each other, festivities were celebrated with great splendour. All these were enough to generate curiosity and make me explore the topic even more. Travelling has always been of great interest to me. It opens me up to the infinite hidden things that we miss and those many more people who change the way you percieve things! He asked me if I needed anything to eat.  "Saab vada pav, pav bhaji, misal pav, kuch khaog e?". I shook my head in disagreement and moved forward neglecting something that struck me right away. An impulse of acknowledgement, that something was out of place but I ignored it and moved forward to where I was headed. This was in Panchagani, where I had come on a family visit. We had gone to visit a place called 'table top', so called due to some god forsaken reason that I dint bother much about! So after the trivial encounter or so I thought, I moved forward to the ground which stretched to a circumference of 8km roughly and had a breathtaking view to say the least.
